San Francisco
Lindsey and I had the awesome opportunity to have a long weekend in San Francisco last week while the girls stayed in St. Louis with my parents. Below are the highlights from the trip each day, as well as some of our favorite photos.
Thursday
- We flew to San Francisco Thursday morning and arrived in the city around 11am PT.
- We hiked the beautiful Land’s End Trial along the coast
- From the end of the hike we walked to Golden Gate Park and then walked around the park. The neighborhoods were beautiful and the park felt very similar to Forest Park in St. Louis. (As Lindsey will tell you, I made her walk a lot during the trip. We walked around 11-13 miles each day—on anything but flat terrain!)
- We had coffee at a place called Hollow. We loved trying a lot of new coffee shops while on this trip. We tried everything from the national Peet’s (started in Berkely) to hole-in-the-wall places like Hollow.
- We had dinner in Fisherman’s Wharf at Lou’s Fish Shack
Friday
- We rented a car for the day and drove north to Muir Woods. We got there early, so not only did we get in free, but not many people were there. We did a beautiful 3 mile hike up the ridge through the huge costal redwood trees where we didn’t see anyone else the entire hike.
- We drove south through the city and down Highway 1. We stopped at a few different places to take in the views and do some smaller hikes.
- We stopped in Half Moon Bay for lunch at Barbara’s Fish Shack. We also got drinks at Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. (I’m always up for trying the local breweries!) and walked around their little downtown.
- We drove over to Stanford to meet up with one of my college buddies that was finishing up his MBA. We got dinner with them and walked around the beautiful Stanford campus.
Saturday
- We walked around the farmer’s market at the Ferry Building. There were all sorts of booths and the fruit was absolutely amazing.
- We got coffee at Peet’s (I tried the nitro cold brew, which was amazing!) and walked to Chinatown.
- We walked around Chinatown and went to the Tin How Temple, Kong Chow Temple and Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory.
- We made the long walk back to the hotel stopping at Lombard Street along the way.
- We rode the Hyde/Powell Cable Car through the city.
- We went to the Mission Street District that evening and got dinner at Los Coyote, dessert at Cream (make your own ice cream sandwiches!) and drinks at the Monk’s Kettle.
Sunday
- We rented bikes and rode across the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito.
- Along the ride we randomly met up with someone who went to our high school and got lunch with her and her husband at Bar Bocce.
- We walked around the shops in Sausalito and then took a ferry back to the city.
- We rode to the Marina district and got coffee at Chestnut Coffee Roastery with my cousin, Elizabeth, who lives in the city.
- We had dinner in North Point at Italian Homemade Restuarant
